Letale Liebe und das Phantasma idealer Mütterlichkeit in Grillparzers Trauerspiel „Des Meeres und der Liebe Wellen“

Mein Essay behandelt die familiäre Genese und die Struktur der Liebesbeziehung in Grillparzers moderner Version der hellenistischen Hero-und-Leander-Fabel in Verbindung mit dem melancholischen Liebestod-Tableau des Stückes. Er diskutiert die ungewöhnliche Fixierung beider Figuren auf das romantische Phantasma idealer Mütterlichkeit und erörtert den weiblichen Tod auf der ikonographischen Folie des neoplatonischen Amor-und-Psyche-Mythos im Todesdiskurs der Goethezeit und mit Bezug auf einige andere berühmte literarische Küsse um 1800. Der letzte Abschnitt des Essays untersucht das Mütterlichkeitsphantasma des Stückes unter autobiographischen Vorzeichen als Nostalgiesymptom seines Verfassers.

My essay examines the familial origin and the structure of the love relationship in Grillparzer's modern version of the Hellenistic Hero and Leander myth in connection with the play's melancholic love-death tableau. It discusses the unusual fixation of both characters on the romantic phantasm of ideal motherhood and analyzes the female death against the iconographic foil of the Neoplatonic Amor and Psyche myth in the death discourse of the Goethezeit and with regard to some other famous literary kisses around 1800. The last part of the essay examines the play's phantasm of ideal motherhood in autobiographical terms as a symptom of nostalgia on the part of its author.
