Prolegomena zu einer künftigen Edition der Shakespeare-Übersetzungen von August Wilhelm Schlegel und dem Tieck-Kreis

A historical-critical edition of the Shakespeare translations of August Wilhelm Schlegel and Ludwig Tieck and his circle has still to be published. The following article sketches out the fundamental requirements and considerations for this urgently needed edition. It also shows that the recently published translation of August Wilhelm Schlegel’s work manuscript for Hamlet, which is housed in the State Library of Saxony in Dresden, cannot meet this desideratum.
