Ritualisierte Anschlusskommunikation auf Instagram

Formelhafte Komplimente und ihre Erwiderung als verdichtete Online-Interaktion

Der Beitrag widmet sich der Anschlusskommunikation zu Posts im Körperakzeptanz-Diskurs auf Instagram. Dazu werden ein Gesamtkorpus bestehend aus 29.373 Kommentaren aus den Jahren 2020/2021 sowie ein weniger umfangreiches manuell annotiertes Subkorpus (4.668 Kommentare) untersucht. Als theoretische Rahmung dienen zum einen sozio- und medienlinguistische Überlegungen zum digitalen Schreiben als soziale Praxis sowie zum anderen interaktional-linguistische Modelle der (stance-orientierten) Forschung zu Evaluationen und Komplimenten. Da das Korpus insbesondere von Sprache und Emojis integrierenden Evaluationen mit positiver Valenz geprägt ist, also von Komplimenten, auf die mitunter von den Kompliment-Empfangenden geantwortet wird, nimmt der Beitrag empirisch fundiert verschiedene multimodale Komplimentformate sowie Formate der Kompliment-Erwiderung in den Blick. Methodisch werden quantitative und qualitative Untersuchungsschritte integriert. Die diskutierten Befunde lassen sich als Muster einer formelhaften, vorstrukturierten und multimodal dichten Online-Interaktion interpretieren. Insgesamt präsentieren sich die untersuchten Kommentare als ritualisierte Anschlusskommunikation, die primär der Konstitution und Bestätigung von Gruppenzugehörigkeit (zu körperreflektierenden Instagram-Communities) dient.

This article focuses on the follow-up communication to posts in the Instagram body image discourse. For this purpose, it examines a total corpus of 29,373 comments from the years 2020/2021 and a less extensive manually annotated sub-corpus (4,668 comments). The theoretical framework consists of socio-linguistic and media-linguistic considerations for digital writing as a social practice and also interactional-linguistic models of (stance-oriented) research on evaluations and compliments. Since the corpus is characterised in particular by positively valenced evaluations integrating language and emojis, i. e. by compliments, to which the recipient of the compliment sometimes responds, the article takes an empirically based look at various multimodal compliment formats and formats of compliment replies. The methodology integrates quantitative and qualitative steps in the research. The findings discussed here can be interpreted as a pattern of a dense formulaic, pre-structured and multimodal online interaction. Overall, the comments examined are part of a ritualised follow-up communication, which primarily serves to establish and confirm group membership (in Instagram communities commenting on body image).
